Why do designers & owners choose structural steel?
A project can be very successful is to select structural steel which brings numerous benefits. All other materials are measured against the standard of structural steel and structural steel is still the material of choice. So, why do they choose structural steel yet?
Today, I am here to answers why it is so important according to my experience. Speed of construction is the main factor while making the project. Other materials may be able to start field work sooner, but the rapid design, fabrication and erection cycle with structural steel will allow the framing system to finish sooner and be available earlier to other trades.
Structural steel has remained the cost leader for construction materials over the past 30 years. And comparative studies indicate that a steel structure engineering including decking and fire protection will typically cost 5% to 7% less than a concrete framing system on a national basis.
Sustainability is structural steel's middle name. Notes on Application of Fire-Proof Paint
Fireproof spray protection project on steel structure should be constructed by trained and qualified team which can choose strict construction program according to the engineering characteristics and product selection. Physical and chemical properties of the coating can be carried out in accordance with the project which needs the required proportion for sampling.
Substrate surface on fire-retardant paint should be viewed as a strict process. And the people should clear dust, iron, rust, grease and other substances interfere with adhesion to take great measures on rust prevention. The bottom and surface on the fireproof paint should be correspondingly matched without rust steel.
The coating thickness should meet the value; the node position should be thickened. Spraying area requirements, component surface treatment, filling seams, paint preparation, spraying passes, quality control and inspection, etc., should be consistent with existing national standards "Steel fire-retardant application of technical specifications" (CECS24) requirements. If the coating crack is large, you should research and analysis process to ensure whether it is correct. Coating is also important in the whole steel structure engineering, so you must pay more attentions to it.
Consistency should be well controlled while coating, and the distance between air compressor and component. If there are many splash down things, that means the construction parameter is unreasonable and it should be adjusted.
